KTR Slams Revanth Reddy Over Crop Holiday and Rythu Bandhu

IN SHORTKTR slams Revanth Reddy over crop holiday, Rythu Bandhu halt and power holiday at Adilabad rally, vows farmer protests until KCR returns to power.

BRS working president KTR on Sunday accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s Congress government of pushing every major sector of Telangana into crisis, and he singled out a long list of government “holidays” that he said had hit farmers hardest, including a holiday for Rythu Bandhu itself.

Speaking at the Rythu Garjana farmers’ meeting in Adilabad, KTR listed what he described as the holidays declared since the Congress came to power: a crop holiday, a fee reimbursement holiday, a power holiday, a holiday for construction, a holiday for industries, and a holiday for the IT sector. The Rythu Bandhu investment support scheme, he said, was also put on holiday.

He then turned the list into a direct challenge to the Chief Minister. Why so many holidays? If the state gave Revanth Reddy a holiday, would the state find peace?

“Why so many holidays? If we give Revanth Reddy a holiday, won’t this uproar end? If we bring back KCR, won’t this uproar go away and peace return?”

The line was delivered in Telugu, and it framed the rest of his speech. KTR argued that Telangana would only return to calm if K. Chandrashekar Rao became Chief Minister again. He asked citizens to consider how things stood in the state right now, and he presented the question as a choice between the present government and the previous BRS rule.

KTR also turned his fire on the BJP. He claimed the Congress government was looting people in Telangana while the BJP government at the Centre was standing behind it. Adilabad has a BJP MLA and a BJP MP, he said, yet neither was speaking out against the Congress government. “Big brother and little brother have joined hands,” he said, using a phrase that cast the two parties as allies working in tandem.

He drew a parallel between the two capitals. The BJP government in Delhi, he alleged, was busy robbing people, and the Congress government in Hyderabad was busy doing the same. That, he said, was why the two parties were in league. The report does not include a response from the Chief Minister’s office or the Congress party to these allegations.

The speech leaned heavily on nostalgia. KTR said the ten years of KCR’s rule had brought peace, brotherhood and a happy atmosphere to Telangana, with people respecting each other’s customs and traditions. He recalled gifts that were distributed during Ramzan to Muslims, sarees for women during Bathukamma, and gifts at Christmas.

Those schemes, he said, have disappeared. “Bathukamma sarees are gone. Ramzan tofa is gone. Christmas gifts are gone. The KCR kit is also gone,” he said. He added that people had lost their peace of mind and their sleep, and that the old hardships had returned.

He urged voters to think carefully before casting their ballots. Remember what KCR said, he told the crowd. One wrong vote, he warned, means paying the price for five years. KTR also acknowledged that there are no elections underway at present and no immediate polls on the horizon.

Even so, he read the large turnout at the Adilabad rally as a sign that the government could be pressured into action. He said he believed the government would come down and deposit Rythu Bandhu money into farmers’ accounts. If that did not happen, he said, BRS would mobilise farmers and hold meeting after meeting.

“I have faith that the government will come down and put Rythu Bandhu money into farmers’ accounts. If not, let us take up this work. Let us hold meetings one after another. Let us gather the farmers,” he said.

KTR announced that the party would mobilise farmers across Telangana and continue its struggle until KCR is returned as Chief Minister. He closed by recalling a song by Adilabad poet Gooda Anjanna, quoting its lines about raising the Telangana flag, and called on party workers and the public to lift the pink flag once again.

The political exchange is now set against a sharp contest over farm support, with BRS framing the government’s holidays as a sign of collapse and the Congress government yet to answer the charges in the report.
