Sri Saanvi of SGUTTA won two girls’ singles titles on Sunday, taking the Under-15 and Under-19 crowns at the Samreddy Sudershan Reddy Memorial Telangana State Table Tennis Tournament in Hyderabad. The double gold was the standout result of a day packed with close finals, deep runs and young players stepping into the spotlight.
The tournament was held at Mahaveer Institute of Science & Technology in Bandlaguda, where medal winners across every age group lined up for their prizes. T Srinivas Reddy, BJP State Executive Member and corporate representative, presented the trophies.
Sri Saanvi’s double crown
Sri Saanvi of SGUTTA clinched a double crown, winning the girls’ Under-15 and Under-19 singles titles.
Her Under-15 final was the tougher of the two. She faced Gayathri of GSM and dropped the second and third games, losing 11-13 and 9-11 after winning the opener 11-6. Instead of folding, she took the fourth game 11-7 and closed it out 11-5 to seal the title in five.
The Under-19 final was a far more one-sided affair. Sri Saanvi beat P Sathya of LFHSA 11-2, 11-6, 11-4 in straight games, dominating from start to finish. Two titles in one tournament, with the second coming in a clean sweep, made her the clear headline of the day.
Men’s and women’s titles
In the men’s final, Swarnendu Chowdhury of SGUTTA beat clubmate Mohammed Ali in a seven-game thriller. The scoreline read 6-11, 15-13, 13-11, 15-13, 6-11, 9-11, 11-4. Both players were from the same club, so the final ended with an SGUTTA champion regardless of the result.
Nikhat Banu of RBISC won the women’s title, defeating TL Harshitha of AWA 11-4, 11-6, 12-10, 11-4. Banu closed the match without dropping a game, and the 12-10 third game was the only real test she faced.
Results across the age groups
The boys’ draw produced plenty of competitive matches. Jatin Jairam of SGUTTA beat Srikara Varshik of SPARS 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 4-11, 11-8 in the Under-11 final after a back-and-forth battle. M Vihaan of ITTA beat VSS Advik of PPTTA 3-0 in the Under-13 final, while Sriram Siddarth of AVSC defeated S Vaibhav of the same club 11-5, 14-12, 9-11, 11-6 in the Under-15 final. Yashvasin of AWA edged Virat Sagar of SGUTTA 6-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 11-1 in the Under-17 final.
On the girls’ side, Riya Shaik of SGUTTA beat Vridhi Jain of LFHSA 3-0 in the Under-11 final. Moksika of OMGS defeated M Maayra of SPARS 11-9, 11-6, 11-7 in the Under-13 final. In the Under-17 final, Aniyah of SGUTTA beat D Avanthika of SPARS 8-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 after dropping the opening game.
Why Hyderabad matters here
This was a Telangana State championship staged in Hyderabad, which means the medals went to players training and competing in the state. Young players from several clubs across the city and state appeared in the finals, from SGUTTA and SPARS to AWA, LFHSA, AVSC and GSM. For local players, a state-level title is often the first step toward wider selection and bigger tournaments, so a double winner from the state capital gives the local scene a clear reference point.
The bigger picture for the young players
What stood out in the results was how many finals went the distance. Several boys’ and girls’ matches were decided by a single game or a fight back from a game down. Those results show a field where the margins were small and the nerve mattered as much as the strokes. Sri Saanvi’s ability to recover in her Under-15 final, and then take her Under-19 match without losing a game, showed the kind of range that often marks a player to watch in the coming seasons.
The day also brought together players from different age groups under one roof. The Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 categories were all decided on the same Sunday, giving younger players a chance to watch older competitors and learn from the way matches were won.
For the winners, the medals will carry weight in the Telangana table tennis calendar. For the runners-up, the close finals offer a clear lesson in how fine the line is between gold and silver. Sri Saanvi, though, leaves Bandlaguda with two gold medals and the most decorated performance of the tournament. Her double crown is the story that will be told first, and it is the one most players in the draw will be chasing next time.
