The ground beneath homes and infrastructure has begun to give way, leading to significant cracks in buildings and a complete severance of the main road connecting the village to the district headquarters.

The alarming phenomenon, which commenced approximately a week ago following an initial landslide, has intensified, leaving a trail of destruction. Bilal Ahmad, a local shopkeeper, recounted his terrifying experience when his shop walls groaned and the floor split open. "I was terrified and rushed out immediately. The ground beneath us was slipping away," he stated, still visibly shaken by the ordeal. Moments later, a nearby house collapsed entirely, sending panic through the community.

Villagers describe a grim landscape of caved-in structures, homes riddled with gaping fissures, and agricultural fields torn apart. The road, once a lifeline for Kalaban, now features a massive crater, effectively isolating the community. Reyaz Ahmad, another resident, highlighted the rapid deterioration: "Yesterday the cracks in the road were narrow, but today they have widened alarmingly."

This isn't a sudden, isolated incident; the subsidence has continued relentlessly, even as weather conditions improved. The scale of property damage is extensive, with hundreds of kanals of fertile land lost and dozens of structures deemed uninhabitable. Preliminary field assessments confirm at least three houses have already collapsed, while many others exhibit severe cracks, rendering them unsafe for occupation. Revenue officials are on site, meticulously evaluating the full extent of these losses.

The most immediate and pressing concern for the villagers is the impending monsoon season. Residents like Munir warn that the already compromised structures will not withstand another spell of heavy rain. The fear is palpable that the current damage could escalate into a full-blown catastrophe, endangering more lives and properties.

Local residents are vocal in their allegations, pointing directly to the ongoing National Highway construction in the vicinity as the primary cause of the subsidence. They claim that the extensive use of heavy machinery to cut into the land for road development has destabilized and loosened the soil, directly contributing to the ground's current instability.
