God of War Ragnarok Tops PS5 Era’s Highest-Grossing Games

IN SHORTAlinea Analytics estimates God of War Ragnarok is the top-grossing PlayStation Studios game of the PS5 era at $1.4 billion, ahead of Spider-Man 2.

God of War Ragnarok is the highest-grossing PlayStation Studios game of the PS5 generation, with an estimated $1.4 billion in gross revenue. The figure comes from data firm Alinea Analytics, and it puts Sony Santa Monica’s Norse sequel at the top of a list that includes some of the biggest names Sony has released since 2020.

Rhys Elliott, the company’s head of market analysis, shared the ranking in a Substack post on November 6, 2026. The list covers 10 games published under the PlayStation banner and estimates their sales so far this generation.

The full top 10

Spider-Man 2 sits second at $1.3 billion. Gran Turismo 7 is third at $841.9 million, and Helldivers 2 takes fourth at $786.3 million.

Horizon Forbidden West ($485.8 million) ranks fifth. Ghost of Yōtei ($410.1 million) is sixth, The Last of Us Part 1 ($341.3 million) is seventh, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart ($334.9 million) is eighth. Stellar Blade ($316.9 million) comes in ninth, and Astro Bot ($292.6 million) closes out the list at tenth.

Exclusive or not, the money is spread across platforms. Together, these 10 games generated over $6.5 billion. Alinea’s breakdown splits that revenue across PlayStation (84.7%), Steam (14.1%), and Xbox (1.2%, from Helldivers 2 alone). The numbers account for other platforms, so a title’s ranking does not mean it was a PlayStation-only release.

Astro Bot is the clearest exclusive on the list. It is only available on PS5, and its $292.6 million came from an estimated 4.7 million copies sold on that platform. Ghost of Yōtei is also a PS5 exclusive, with an estimated 5.5 million copies sold. Its recent Echoes of Sekigahara expansion helped it climb to sixth, even though it had trailed its predecessor as of October.

Stellar Blade is a different case. It is a second-party release published by PlayStation Studios, and its revenue comes from both PS5 and Steam. Alinea’s data shows 59.7% of its revenue came from PS5 and 40.3% from Steam. A Nintendo Switch 2 version launched the day before the data update, but the estimates above do not include that platform in the same way.

Why God of War Ragnarok keeps selling

Ragnarok’s position at the top is not just about its launch. Alinea’s numbers show the game has kept earning long after its release, and that is what makes it stand out from the rest of the list.

The game has sold an estimated 21.6 million copies across PS5, PS4, and PC. Of its 20.1 million copies sold on PlayStation, 75.2% were on PS5. Elliott also noted that 27.5% of all sales on PS4 and PS5 were physical.

Elliott described the sequel in plain terms, and the phrase is the one that stands out in the data:

“an evergreen title for Sony”

He added that in 2026 alone, God of War Ragnarok has sold 1.1 million copies. That is a strong number for a game that is nearly two years into its life, and it outpaces many brand-new releases from this year, according to the same analysis.

Part of that staying power appears to come from the PlayStation ecosystem. The game became available to PlayStation Extra subscribers in January 2025. Alinea estimates that 6.7 million PlayStation Plus users have accessed it through the service.

What the numbers do not settle

These figures are estimates, not official Sony data. Alinea’s breakdown is not an official look at where the company’s sales stand. Readers should treat the rankings as a strong indication of performance rather than a final accounting.

The timing is worth noting. The update follows official information released by PlayStation earlier this week. In that release, the company raised its sales forecast and shared figures for Marvel’s Wolverine for the first time. Those official numbers and the third-party estimates are separate sources, and they should not be merged into one picture.

For now, the takeaway is simple. God of War Ragnarok holds the top spot in Alinea’s ranking of PS5-generation PlayStation Studios games, with Spider-Man 2 close behind. The rest of the top 10 shows that Sony’s biggest hits are not confined to one console, and that the line between exclusive and multiplatform is blurrier than most fans assume.

TL;DR

  • God of War Ragnarok tops Alinea Analytics’ list of highest-grossing PlayStation Studios games of the PS5 generation at an estimated $1.4 billion.
  • Spider-Man 2 is second at $1.3 billion, followed by Gran Turismo 7 at $841.9 million.
  • The top 10 games together generated over $6.5 billion, with PlayStation accounting for 84.7% of that revenue.
  • Astro Bot and Ghost of Yōtei are PS5 exclusives, while many others on the list also sold on Steam or Xbox.
  • The figures are third-party estimates from Rhys Elliott’s Substack post, not official Sony data.
