PV Sindhu won the Hylo Open Super 500 badminton title in Saarbrücken, Germany, on Sunday, beating Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in a 39-minute final. It is the second title of the season for the Indian, and it arrives at a moment when every ranking point counts.

The win was clean from start to finish. The second-seeded Sindhu, currently ranked world No. 8, faced a world No. 25 opponent seeded eighth in the draw, and she never looked like giving up control of the match.

How the first game slipped away from the Dane

Sindhu opened with a cross-court winner, but a couple of unforced errors let Kjærsfeldt stay in contention at 3-3. That was the only stretch where the Dane looked comfortable.

Sindhu then took over the rallies. Her deception and sharp net play pushed her ahead 8-5, and she kept that advantage through the opening game. A superb backhand winner moved her to 17-12, and she converted her first game point to take the opening game 21-12.

A second game built on winners

Sindhu carried the momentum into the second game and built a 6-3 lead. Kjærsfeldt tried to fight back, but the Indian answered with a series of winners to restore her advantage and move ahead 10-6.

The Dane kept struggling at the net. Sindhu stretched her lead to 17-11, and an attacking return gave her six championship points. She did not need many. Kjærsfeldt committed another net error, and the title was Sindhu’s on the first opportunity.

Sindhu sealed the title on her first opportunity when Kjærsfeldt committed another net error.

Why the result matters for the rest of the season

The victory brought Sindhu 9,200 ranking points, a sizeable haul that strengthens her bid to qualify for the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals. For a player who has been in form across the season, that qualification push is the real prize beyond the trophy.

The win also came just days after another strong run. Sindhu had won the Japan Open in July and finished runner-up at the French Open last week. Back-to-back results at that level show a player still firmly in the mix at the top of the women’s singles field.

A head-to-head that tilted heavily

Sindhu walked into the final with a dominant 6-1 head-to-head record against Kjærsfeldt. The Dane’s only win over the Indian had come at the 2025 Sudirman Cup Finals. That history made Sindhu the clear favourite, but favourites still have to deliver, and she did so with a performance built on sharp stroke-play, deceptive shots and an effective net game.

A former world champion and double Olympic medallist, Sindhu showed on Sunday why she remains one of the most dangerous players on the circuit. The margin of the scoreline, 21-12 and 21-14, reflected how thoroughly she controlled the rallies from the first point to the last.

The Hylo Open was a USD 500,000 tournament, and it gave Sindhu another chance to show the form that has defined her season. With the World Tour Finals now in view, the next few events will decide how far that ranking push can carry her.
