Price and Positioning
MacBook Neo starts at Rs 69,900 (8GB RAM/256GB storage), making it Apple’s most affordable MacBook. MacBook Air M5 starts at Rs 1,19,900 (16GB RAM/512GB storage), resulting in a Rs 50,000 gap. The Neo targets students and everyday users; the Air aims at professionals and power users needing longevity.
Design and Build
Both weigh ~1.23 kg and are highly portable. The Air is thinner with slimmer bezels and a more premium look. The Neo has a smaller footprint due to a 13-inch display but skips the backlit keyboard and uses a mechanical multi-touch trackpad instead of the Air’s haptic Force Touch trackpad. Touch ID is standard on Air; Neo offers it only on higher configurations. Color options: Neo in Blush, Indigo, Citrus, Silver; Air in Midnight, Starlight, Sky Blue.
Display
MacBook Neo: 13-inch Liquid Retina (2408 x 1506 resolution). MacBook Air: 13.6-inch Liquid Retina (2560 x 1664), supports P3 wide color and True Tone, with slimmer borders. Air also offers a 15-inch variant.
Performance
Neo uses A18 Pro chip (from iPhone family), good for browsing, documents, and streaming but limited for heavier workloads. Air’s M5 chip delivers 20% faster single-core and up to 80% higher multi-core performance, plus stronger graphics. Air supports up to 32GB RAM for multitasking; Neo is capped at 8GB.
Battery and Charging
Neo: up to 16 hours battery life, charges via USB-C with 20W adapter. Air: up to 18 hours, supports MagSafe and faster charging with higher-wattage adapters.
Camera and Audio
Air: 12MP camera with Center Stage; Neo: 1080p FaceTime camera. Air has four speakers with spatial audio (when paired with compatible AirPods); Neo has dual speakers.
Connectivity
Neo: two USB-C ports (one USB 3 at 10Gb/s, one USB 2 at 480Mb/s), supports one 4K external display. Air: two Thunderbolt 4 ports (40Gb/s), supports two 6K external displays.
