Telugu actor and YouTuber Prasad Behera has said that a domestic worker he hired after his divorce stole four expensive watches and an Apple Watch from his home, and that the betrayal changed the way he lives, earns and treats people.
In an interview, Behera opened up about some of the darkest chapters of his life, especially the loneliness he felt after his divorce. He said that in that period he hired a maid, mainly to keep him company and to fill the silence of an empty house.
A Maid Hired for Company
Behera said the woman had asked for a monthly salary of around Rs 3,000. He told the interview that he paid her Rs 6,000 instead. He also asked her to talk to him and tell him stories from her street.
He described treating her like a member of the family. According to him, he bought her a kilogram of mutton every week and arranged four regular-seat movie tickets each week so that all her family members could watch films. He said he also paid for groceries and rice, swiping his card for household supplies on her behalf.
The work, by his account, was light. She cleaned the house, washed the utensils and kept him company. Behera said that was largely all she did.
The Day the Watches Went Missing
One day, Behera said, his expensive watches went missing. Four costly watches and an Apple Watch were gone from the house.
He said the maid was caught when she walked out with the Apple Watch tied to the end of her saree. A security buzzer went off, and that was how she was found out.
What shocked him most, he said, was her reaction. She showed no remorse, he claimed. Instead, she complained that the person who bought the stolen items had paid her only Rs 400.
Behera said the episode hurt him deeply. He recalled telling her that if she could find a brother who treated her the way he had, she should bring him along, because her own brother would not treat her that way either. He then asked her to leave his home.
“If you find a younger brother who takes care of you the way I did, bring him here. Your brother also would not have taken care of you like this.”
He said the words were what he remembered saying to her as he asked her to go.
A Man Who Stopped Believing Anyone
The theft, Behera said, left a lasting mark on him. He claimed he stopped trusting people after that day. Now, he said, even when someone greets him warmly or offers him food, he does not believe their intentions.
His attitude toward money has changed too. Instead of saving what he earns, he said, he spends it on his wants. He questioned why anyone would keep money aside, reasoning that if he earned a lakh of rupees in a month, he would spend it on a Rs 20,000 pair of shoes and a Rs 10,000 shirt, and that this was not even a level he could comfortably maintain.
He also said his heart had hardened toward people in need. When someone comes to him saying they have no money, he claimed, he simply tells them, okay, and walks away.
“If you can’t earn, poverty will come.”
That line, he suggested, reflects how far his thinking has moved since the theft. He described a shift from sympathy to a much colder view of anyone who struggles financially.
Where He Says He Stands Now
Despite the bitterness he expressed, Behera said he is doing well at present. He acknowledged a few small debts but said there were no major financial troubles in his life right now. He described himself as very happy at this stage.
The interview paints a picture of a man who lived through a painful separation, looked for companionship in the form of a live-in helper and was left feeling betrayed. Whether his new habits and views will last, he did not say. For now, his account is one of broken trust, a stolen set of watches and a hard lesson he says he will not forget.
