Death Stranding Isolations Anime: First Trailer Shocks Fans

IN SHORTFirst Death Stranding Isolations anime trailer is out. Disney+ 2027 series opens on a tar-haunted girl and a chilling ‘My mom became a crater’ tease.

Kojima Productions has released the first trailer for Death Stranding Isolations, an original anime series set in the world of Death Stranding that will stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027. The teaser went up in a post shared late on October 29, which landed on the morning of October 30 in Japan.

The clip centers on a girl with blonde hair. She is roused from sleep by dreams of being consumed by tar. It is a short, unsettling image, and it makes clear that this series is not interested in easing newcomers in gently.

The accompanying post gives away very little else. It carries a single line that is enough to stop anyone mid-scroll:

"My mom became a crater."

That is the entire hook. There is no explanation, no logo reveal, and no date. The studio is letting the fear do the talking.

A Fresh Cast Outside the Game

Death Stranding Isolations is described as an original story driven by its own unique ensemble of characters. That wording matters. It suggests that Sam Porter Bridges, Fragile, and the rest of the familiar faces from the games will not be major players in this series. Fans who came for a return to those characters may have to adjust their expectations.

The series will stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027, as previously announced. No exact date has been given yet. For now, the trailer is the only real look fans have at what the show will feel like.

The Director With a Long Anime Résumé

The anime is directed by Takayuki Sano, a veteran known for key animation, creature and prop design, and directing across a swath of major anime. He served as animation director for the final season of Attack on Titan and worked on episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen and the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

Behind the script, Tow Ubukata is set to write the series screenplay. Ubukata is a noted science-fiction author who has contributed to Psycho-Pass 3, Psycho-Pass: Providence, and Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie. He was also the Free Scenario Plotter for Shenmue.

E&H production is animating the series. The studio is best known for its work on Undead Unluck: Winter Arc, Ninja Kamui, and the 2026 Magic Knight Rayearth reboot. That combination of a sci-fi writer, a seasoned animation director, and a studio with recent action credits points to a show built for darker, bigger spectacle.

Kojima Is Busy Again

The anime is only part of a busy stretch for Hideo Kojima and his team. Kojima also unveiled a new poster for his upcoming horror game, developed in collaboration with director Jordan Peele. The game is titled OD. The poster shows Sophia Lillis looking up at a long, red object hanging above her.

The timing is hard to ignore. Kojima recently said he intends to make cameos in films and TV, and he has an appearance in a ‘big’ live-action film coming up. His studio’s next big action espionage game, Physint, also made headlines recently after changing hands from Sony to Xbox. Details on that project remain sparse, but Kojima has confirmed a few cast members: Bill Skarsgard, Charlie Fraser, and Minami Hamabe.

So the trailer lands in the middle of a crowded schedule. Fans are being asked to track a horror collaboration, a spy game with a new publisher, a live-action cameo, and now an animated spinoff that does not follow the familiar cast. Each new reveal raises the stakes for the next one.

Why the Trailer Is Hard to Shake

The most unsettling part of the teaser is how little it explains. A girl wakes up from a nightmare about tar. A post says her mother became a crater. Nothing else is confirmed, and the show’s own description leaves room for almost any direction. That gap is exactly what fans will argue about in the coming months.

What we know is firm. The series is an original story set in the Death Stranding world. It is coming to Disney+ in 2027. Takayuki Sano is directing, Tow Ubukata is writing, and E&H production is animating. Beyond that, the trailer is doing what good teasers do: it is asking questions and leaving the answers for later.
