Kojima Productions Reveals First Look at Death Stranding Isolations
Kojima Productions has unveiled a 45-second teaser for Death Stranding Isolations, an animated series headed to Disney and Hulu in 2027. The studio posted the teaser to YouTube on October 30, 2026, and revealed the show’s synopsis along with a new teaser poster.
The series is built on an original story set in the world of Death Stranding. It follows a young man and a woman on an adventure, and it is the first Death Stranding project to step away from the franchise’s best-known face.
Not a Sam Bridges story
Unlike the Death Stranding games, including Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the anime will not center on Sam Bridges. That detail alone will shift expectations for longtime fans, who have spent two games following his journey.
The story still unfolds during the events of the first game. Sam is working to reconnect the continent through the Chiral Network, and the anime runs alongside that effort while introducing a fresh set of characters.
Four characters, one dark mood
So far, four characters have been identified. There is an old man seeking salvation outside of Bridges’ network, a female warrior, a boy with a grudge against Bridges, and a lonely young girl.
The teaser gives the clearest glimpse yet of that young girl. She is also a Porter, and the teaser shows her having nightmares about the BTs, or Beached Things. Anyone who has played the games knows exactly how unsettling that image is.
The poster that stops you cold
The teaser poster carries a line that is hard to shake: ‘My mom became a crater.’ The tagline points to one of two grim possibilities. Either BTs consumed the young girl’s mother, or she necrotized into a BT. In both cases, the result is a Voidout, the massive explosion seen throughout the Death Stranding games.
My mom became a crater.
That single sentence does more heavy lifting than most full trailers. It tells viewers the stakes are personal, and it hints that the series will not soften the franchise’s horror.
Kojima’s fingerprints are all over this
Hideo Kojima will executive-produce Death Stranding Isolations. That is the name fans have followed for decades, and his involvement is the main reason the teaser has drawn so much attention.
The show’s creative team is equally notable. E&H Production has brought together some of Japan’s leading animation talent to build the series. Takayuki Sano, known for his animation work on Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, is part of that effort.
The animation style is also a deliberate choice. The series will use a traditional, hand-drawn 2D look, a direct contrast to the realistic, motion-captured worlds of the games.
The cameo question
Kojima has a habit of appearing inside his own projects. He recently teased secret cameos in multiple projects, including two big anime, one game, and a live-action movie. He has also made a cameo in CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
That history makes the obvious question hard to avoid. Could Death Stranding Isolations be his next anime appearance? Given his track record, it would not be surprising to see him make a cameo in his own series.
What comes next
For now, the facts are limited but clear. The teaser is out, the synopsis is public, and the series is scheduled for Disney and Hulu in 2027. The studio has not offered a longer preview, so fans will have to work with a 45-second window and one chilling poster.
Death Stranding has always thrived on mystery and quiet dread. If this anime keeps that tone while stepping away from Sam Bridges, it could give the franchise a new audience and a new way to tell its story.
