The Railway Recruitment Board has opened applications for 1,250 Station Master posts across India, and graduates have until November 25 to apply. The notification was published on October 26, 2026, and the online application window opens tomorrow, October 27.
Applications open on October 27 and close on November 25.
For the first time in railway recruitment history, Station Master posts have been separated from NTPC recruitment and are being filled through a dedicated RRB process. That split is the headline change for aspirants who have watched these roles folded into broader railway exams for years.
Where the jobs are
The posts will be filled by 20 Railway Recruitment Boards spread across the country. The list includes Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Bilaspur, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gorakhpur, Jammu-Srinagar, Kolkata, Malda, Mumbai, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Prayagraj, Ranchi, Secunderabad, Siliguri and Thiruvananthapuram. Vacancy numbers for each board will be announced later.
Why Telangana candidates should pay attention
Secunderabad is one of the boards on the list, which puts Telangana graduates directly within the recruitment zone. Candidates from Telangana can apply to these posts through the central online process, but the notification does not describe any state-specific quota or separate Telangana vacancy count. Anyone planning to apply should check the board-wise vacancy details once they are released.
Who can apply
Candidates must hold a degree from a recognised university. The age limit is calculated as of January 1, 2027. The minimum age is 20 years and the maximum age is 30 years. Reserved category candidates get age relaxation as per Railway Board rules.
Application fee and salary
Applications must be submitted online. General, OBC and EWS candidates must pay Rs 500. SC, ST, PwD, ex-servicemen and women candidates pay Rs 250. Selected candidates will receive a monthly salary of Rs 35,400 under pay level 6.
How selection works
Selection happens in stages. The first stage is a Computer Based Test, or CBT, worth 100 marks, to be written in 120 minutes. The paper includes 60 questions on basic science, mathematics and analytical capability, 20 questions on logical capability through reading comprehension, and 20 questions on mental reasoning.
Candidates who perform well in the CBT on merit will be called for a Computer Based Aptitude Test, or CBAT. The notification says roughly eight candidates will be shortlisted for each vacancy in the respective RRB for the CBAT stage. After that come document verification and a medical examination.
Medical standards to check now
Candidates must meet specific vision standards. Distance vision must be 6/9, and near vision must be Sn-0.6. Aspirants who wear corrective lenses should confirm they meet these thresholds before investing time and money in preparation.
The clock is the story
The window is short. Applications open tomorrow and close on November 25, which leaves a limited stretch for eligibility checks, document preparation and online submission. The notification also says the dates may change or may remain as announced, so candidates should not wait for a reminder before acting.
Full details, including the official notification and application link, are available on the Railway Recruitment Board website at rrb.indianrailways.gov.in. Candidates should rely on the official portal rather than third-party links while applying.
