Nayanthara has come on board Rajinikanth’s Dharman, and director Ashwath Marimuthu rolled out a public welcome after the makers teased a major cast addition. The much-anticipated drama now has one of South cinema’s most recognised names in its lineup.

The teaser came first. On Sunday, the makers of the film, Raaj Kamal Films International, posted a cryptic message that read ‘Some Eyes say it all (fire emoji) THE CHARISMA ARRIVES.’ Fans quickly connected the dots, and the confirmation followed within hours.

A few hours later, Ashwath Marimuthu responded to the post in his own words, and the reply made the news official from the director’s side.

Welcome on board mam.

The message was short, followed by a red heart and a hug emoji. It was warm, direct and exactly the kind of moment that sends a film’s fan base into overdrive.

Where the shoot stands. The announcement comes after a major stretch of production. In September, Marimuthu shared the update that the team had wrapped its third schedule, posting ‘3rd schedule Wrapped ! #Dharman’ on social media. Nayanthara’s arrival lands after that phase of filming was complete.

Life on the Mysuru set. Raashii Khanna, who also has a crucial role in the film, offered a glimpse of the shoot by sharing photos with co-stars Rajinikanth and Ram Pothineni from the Mysuru schedule. Her Instagram caption described early morning workouts with Rajini sir and Ram, some temple hopping, a bit of wandering, a few rounds of UNO and plenty of laughter. She also gave the local Mysore dosa its own moment, which is hard to argue with.

The behind-the-camera team is also drawing attention. Renowned composer Anirudh has scored the tunes for Dharman, camera work is handled by Niketh Bommi, and Pradeep E Raghav has headed the editing department. The film is backed by Kamal Haasan and R Mahendran, under the banner of Raaj Kamal Films International and Turmeric Media.

Why this pairing gets fans talking. Rajinikanth and Nayanthara have shared the screen before, and their earlier films have built a loyal following. Their earlier collaborations include Chandramukhi (2005), Kuselan (2008), Darbar (2020) and Annaatthe (2021), all Tamil movies. Dharman adds another chapter to that run, and the excitement is not confined to Tamil cinema. Fans across India and beyond have been following the pair’s journey on screen for nearly two decades, and a fresh reunion gives them a new reason to track every update from the sets.

The reports stop short of several details that fans will want. The sources do not describe Nayanthara’s character or confirm a release date for the film. What they do establish is a clear picture of momentum: a completed third schedule, a visible cast with proven star power, and a team that is now publicly building excitement around the next phase.

For now, the story is simple. Nayanthara is in, the director has welcomed her, and one of the most talked-about pairings in Indian cinema is back on the same project. The next official update will likely decide how big the buzz becomes.
