A 28-year-old civil engineer from Hyderabad, Mohammed Jaber Hussain, died under mysterious circumstances inside his residence in Lowell, Massachusetts, just 17 days after getting married.

The untimely demise has shattered his newlywed bride and left his aged parents in profound agony. Hussain had traveled to Texas to tie the knot on August 28 before returning to Massachusetts to resume his professional responsibilities. It remains unclear whether his wife accompanied him back to Massachusetts or remained behind following the wedding celebrations.

A Sudden Silence and Devastating News

Hussain had maintained regular contact with his family back home and last spoke to them on September 14. Tragically, merely eight hours after that final conversation, his family received a heart-wrenching phone call from his roommate in the United States, who informed them that Hussain had passed away unexpectedly in his sleep inside his room. The exact cause of death has not been established, and it is currently unknown whether he received immediate medical attention when the emergency occurred. The bereaved family is currently waiting for official postmortem and medical reports to gain clarity on the mysterious circumstances surrounding his passing.

Academic Ambition and Professional Journey

Hussain’s journey in the United States began in 2021 when he relocated from India to pursue higher education. He enrolled at the University of New Haven in Connecticut, successfully earning his master’s degree in civil engineering in 2023. Following his graduation, he embarked on his professional career as an intern at a firm named Estimator. He subsequently secured employment at Green International Affiliates Inc, where he dedicated over three years of service. In June of this year, Hussain transitioned to a new professional role at Lochner, an engineering firm located in Massachusetts, where he was employed at the time of his passing.

Desperate Plea for Repatriation Assistance

The sudden loss has pushed Hussain’s family into deep grief and financial uncertainty. Belonging to an economically weaker section in Hyderabad, the family faces immense financial hurdles in arranging the transportation of his mortal remains from the United States back to India for his final rites. Seeking government aid, Hussain’s father, Mohammed Zakir Hussain, formally reached out to the Union Government for help.

Taking up the distressed family’s plight, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan shared the father’s emotional appeal on social media platform X, tagging Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar. Khan urged the Ministry to direct the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission in the United States to coordinate with local American authorities and expedite all necessary legal and logistical formalities required to bring the young engineer’s body back home.

"At this hour of unimaginable grief, the family needs the support of the Government of India. I sincerely hope for your immediate humanitarian intervention to bring Jaber home to his family without any further delay."
