Trump Defies Industry Warnings With ‘AI Force’ Initiative

US President Donald Trump announced plans to establish an "AI Force" and designate an "AI czar" to oversee artificial intelligence policy, pushing for aggressive industry expansion while disregarding urgent warnings from top technology executives.

Echoing his 2019 creation of the Space Force, the 80-year-old president unleashed a provocative post on Truth Social, framing regulatory caution as an ideological assault by political opponents. Trump declared that he would refuse to permit the destruction of the data center and artificial intelligence ecosystem, equating fears surrounding AI development to what he termed liberal hoaxes alongside the Russia-Ukraine war and global warming.

"We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!"

Trump’s disruptive vision extends even to the fundamental language of the industry. Earlier in the day, he publicly criticized the term "artificial intelligence" as inaccurate and ineloquent, arguing that the field should instead be rebranded as either "Superior Intelligence" or "Extreme Intelligence." He insisted that federal policy under his administration will prioritize unhindered technological growth over restrictive oversight.

This unrestrained push comes in direct opposition to stark warnings originating from the builders of frontier models. Dario Amodei, head of AI company Anthropic, recently published an online essay pleading for a slowdown in model development to allow governments and firms time to evaluate serious operational risks. Amodei found backing from his rival Elon Musk, who urged AI firms to implement mandatory cross-company testing to identify and fix critical safety flaws before releasing new systems. The debate is further heightened by warnings from former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who publicly cautioned that advanced systems could wipe out humanity before the current decade ends.

While the White House prepares to accelerate development, state-level leaders are rushing to implement emergency guardrails. California Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order establishing safety evaluation frameworks and requiring the integration of a mandatory "kill switch" inside advanced AI programs. Criticizing Trump for failing to act on systemic risk, Newsom’s mandate establishes recurring evaluation procedures and formal channels for compulsory breach notifications to prevent widespread technical catastrophe.
