Major US television networks suspended their shared presidential coverage on Monday after the White House barred CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the complex.

In what highlights a high-handed administrative maneuver swiftly deteriorating into farce, the five dominant broadcast networks—ABC News, CBS News, CNN, NBC News, and Fox News Media—refused to facilitate Donald Trump’s latest purge of news outlets. By revoking credentials and ejecting targeted reporters off the White House grounds over claims of fake news, the administration sought to punish critical reporting. Instead, Trump managed to cut off the primary joint broadcast channel that distributes footage of his official events to news outlets nationwide.

The Pool Mechanics Collapse

The White House press pool normally operates on a shared system: the major networks take turns sending a single camera crew to cover the president, distributing the raw footage across all participating channels. CNN was scheduled to manage the pool on Monday, which included crucial coverage of Trump’s trip to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
