Mahindra officially launched the re-engineered Thar OG off-road SUV in India on September 22, 2026, with an aggressive introductory starting price of Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom).

Stepping up as the direct evolutionary successor to the iconic three-door Thar introduced in 2020, this latest machine represents an explosive leap forward in engineering refinement. Mahindra has comprehensively reworked the Thar OG from the ground up, delivering enhanced power outputs, state-of-the-art chassis tech, and superior cockpit luxury without compromising the aggressive, boxy stance off-road enthusiasts adore. Deliveries for this revamped off-roader are scheduled to begin across India on October 11, 2026.

At the core of the reworked Thar OG is Mahindra’s advanced ‘M_Glyde 4G’ architecture, engineered to provide significantly elevated structural stiffness for both highway cruising and punishing off-road trails. The dynamic transformation extends deep into the suspension geometry, featuring an all-new rear ‘Pentalink’ suspension incorporating a Watts Link setup. Combined with cutting-edge ‘Davinci’ Damping tech with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD), electric power steering, and upgraded NVH insulation, driving dynamics reach a whole new tier of composure.

Four-wheel-drive variants come armed with an Electronic Locking Differential alongside specialized Terrain Modes catering to Mud, Sand, and Snow conditions. Meanwhile, rear-wheel-drive configurations powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engines do not miss out on rugged utility, gaining standard Terrain Assist to navigate tricky topographies effortlessly.

Under the hood, Mahindra’s reworked powertrains bring thrilling performance upgrades. The boosted 2.0-litre, four-cylinder G20 TGDi mStallion turbo-petrol engine now pumps out an exhilarating 162bhp and 330Nm of torque. Similarly, the workhorse 2.2-litre, four-cylinder D22 mHawk diesel engine gets a power jump to 152bhp and 330Nm of torque. For value-focused adventurers, the proven 1.5-litre, three-cylinder D117 CRDe diesel continues to deliver a strong 118bhp and 300Nm of torque. Transmission choices span manual and automatic options paired across RWD and 4WD drive layouts.

Sharper Exterior Styling and Luxurious Cabin Upgrade

Visually, the silhouette keeps its muscular heritage while flaunting striking modernized cues. Up front, a redesigned front grille is flanked by circular LED headlamps accented with sharp C-shaped Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The front and rear bumpers have been re-sculpted, complemented by a wider track that delivers an immensely grounded stance. Higher-tier variants ride on commanding 19-inch alloy wheels, and two fresh paint shades—Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue—join the existing palette of six colors.

Inside, the transformation continues with premium Truffle Brown leatherette seats, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, and a cushioned second-row armrest featuring integrated cupholders. Tech feature highlights include a sprawling 10.24-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, a digital color MID, wireless phone charging, cruise control, rear air-conditioning vents, and a rear-view camera. Safety is massively elevated with six standard airbags—including four Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder (HPTS) airbags—alongside ESP 9.3 with rollover mitigation. The top-spec ZXT variant adds four-wheel disc brakes, TPMS, and front parking sensors.

The mid-spec LXT trim with the 1.5-litre diesel starts at Rs 12.99 lakh (MT) and Rs 16.49 lakh (AT), while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel LXT ranges from Rs 16.43 lakh (MT) to Rs 18.00 lakh (AT). Petrol LXT options start from Rs 14.77 lakh for RWD AT up to Rs 17.23 lakh for the 4WD AT.

The ultra-equipped ZXT tier kicks off at Rs 13.99 lakh for the 1.5-litre diesel MT and reaches Rs 17.49 lakh for the AT. The 2.2-litre diesel ZXT comes priced between Rs 17.49 lakh (MT) and Rs 18.99 lakh (AT). On the petrol front, ZXT variants span Rs 16.09 lakh (RWD AT) to Rs 17.75 lakh (4WD AT). Mahindra confirmed that these aggressive introductory prices apply strictly to customer deliveries executed before November 30, 2026.
