TGCSB Busts ₹17 Cr Cyber Ring: 101 Arrested Across 6 States

IN SHORTTGCSB arrests 101 people across six states, dismantling an interstate cyber fraud network linked to ₹17 crore in laundered funds and 1,172 cases.

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau arrested 101 individuals across six southern states and Union Territories during a coordinated fortnight-long operation that uncovered a ₹17 crore cyber fraud trail.

Commencing on September 23, more than 100 TGCSB operatives divided into six specialized teams executed raids across Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Puducherry. The coordinated sweep resulted in the dismantling of an expansive network of mule accounts that investigators discovered were actively siphoning off criminal proceeds. Out of the 101 persons detained, 18 are women, while the operational structure comprised 19 field agents and 81 documented mule account holders who rented out their personal banking credentials to interstate fraud cartels.

Sprawling Infrastructure Built on Everyday Bank Accounts

The operational scale revealed by the crackdown shocked enforcement officials, uncovering an intricate supply line where ordinary citizens willingly or opportunistically enabled complex financial crimes. Operatives systematically gathered bank accounts through intermediaries, deploying them to channel illicit money before rapidly pulling funds through automated teller machines, large-scale transfers, and cross-border transactions.

TGCSB Director Shikha Goel said that account holders and intermediaries were paid commissions of up to 5% of the money routed through them.

The demographic analysis of the detainees revealed that financial complicity cut across professional and social boundaries. Approximately 82% of those arrested were between the ages of 20 and 50, with individuals over 50 making up the remaining 17%. Self-employed figures and businessmen represented the largest occupational segment at 23%, alongside private sector employees at 13%, homemakers at 10%, drivers and technical operators at 7%, and sales personnel at 5%. Educational qualifications showed similar variance: 24% held college degrees, 26% had completed intermediate education, while others possessed degrees in nursing, computer engineering, and post-graduate studies.

Deep Entanglement Across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

The investigation carries substantial implications for the Telugu states, with law enforcement confirming 206 direct cybercrime links originating in Telangana alone, where 12 key operatives were detained. Neighboring Andhra Pradesh served as an even larger hub for mule account sourcing during the sweep, accounting for 22 arrests. The arrests stem from 51 distinct first information reports registered across seven dedicated TGCSB Cyber Crime Police Stations, underscoring the deep entrenchment of organized digital syndicates across the region.

Corporate Employees and Sham Trusts Exposed

Among the most startling discoveries of the operation was the active involvement of corporate personnel in maintaining the criminal infrastructure. A Flipkart employee had surrendered their private banking account to the network, resulting in direct ties to 50 separate cyber fraud complaints registered throughout the country. Similarly, an employee from Tata Capital was taken into custody for systematically arranging mule accounts in exchange for financial commissions. An M.Com graduate running a commercial enterprise was traced to 34 distinct fraud complaints, while a diploma holder in film technology was linked to 26 cases, and an ex-serviceman was implicated in six.

Investigators also uncovered fraudulent trust accounts established under the guise of non-governmental organizations to mask dirty transactions. These philanthropic covers were utilized to route and disguise stolen money, establishing direct links to at least 60 active fraud investigations nationwide.

Pan-India Crime Links Cross Twelve Hundred

In total, TGCSB investigators have mapped 1,172 distinct crime links tied to this specific network across India. Fifty of the suspects arrested during the operation had active links to more than five cybercrime complaints each. Kerala witnessed the highest enforcement footprint with 35 arrests, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 22, Karnataka with 17, Tamil Nadu with 14, Telangana with 12, and Puducherry recording a single arrest. Authorities confirmed that extended operations remain ongoing to identify additional interstate handlers and international financial routes tied to the syndicate.

  • Network linked to 1,172 cybercrime cases nationwide, including 206 in Telangana.
