Fifteen-year-old Indian shuttler Tanvi Patri claimed the girls’ singles U17 title at the Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships on Sunday after defeating compatriot Shaina Manimuthu in a hard-fought three-game final.

A Spectacular Comeback Victory

The second-seeded prodigy from Odisha showed incredible champion mentality by recovering from a game down in the summit clash to triumph 11-15, 15-10, 15-12 against sixth seed Manimuthu. This sensational win marks another massive career milestone for Patri, who successfully added the Asian U17 crown to the Asian U15 title she captured in 2024. The final was an exciting rematch of their meeting at the All India Junior U19 Badminton Ranking Tournament in Bengaluru earlier this year, with Patri once again demonstrating her poise under pressure to secure top honors.

A Resilient Campaign Across Every Round

Patri’s path to Asian glory required monumental effort against top continental talent. After receiving an initial first-round bye, she faced a stern opening test against China’s Zhou Jing Li, battling through a nerve-wracking decider to win 18-16, 12-15, 15-13. She then picked up momentum with impressive straight-game wins over Japan’s Shizuku Kashio (15-9, 15-12) and China’s Lin Heng Men (15-8, 15-8). In the semi-finals, Patri delivered another brilliant performance to outlast China’s Yu Ying Gui 15-9, 11-15, 15-11.

India Extends Continental Dominance

Patri’s stellar triumph ensured that India retained the girls’ singles U17 continental crown for a second consecutive year, following Diksha Sudhakar’s gold medal performance in 2025. Manimuthu’s silver medal also caps off a remarkable tournament, building on her own U15 Asian title from last year after overcoming Japanese opponents Yui Itabashi and Anon Okimoto in the knockout stages. Capping off a fantastic championship for the Indian contingent, the U15 boys’ doubles pair of Aaditya Singh Negi and Tanmay Verma secured a bronze medal after reaching the semi-finals.
