BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, accusing him of staying silent on corruption, irregularities and scams in Telangana. Speaking at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, Rama Rao said the state had effectively become an “ATM” for the Congress leadership under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The remarks came as Jibran Sharif, a senior minority leader from the Khairatabad constituency, joined the BRS at the party headquarters. Rama Rao used the occasion to take aim at the Congress government’s record since it came to power, and he did not hold back.
He described Revanth Reddy as the Congress MP’s “ATM card.” Rama Rao accused the Congress government of plundering the people of Telangana, even as he said the BJP at the Centre was sowing divisions among them. The BRS leader framed the attack as a two-front charge: one against the national party’s leadership, and one against its government in the state.
The six guarantees question
Rama Rao returned repeatedly to the promises Congress made before taking office. He recalled that Rahul Gandhi had assured voters the party would implement six guarantees within 100 days of coming to power in Telangana. Those guarantees, he said, remain unfulfilled.
He also pointed to Rahul Gandhi’s national campaigning around ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ (Voice of Students). Rama Rao asked why a leader who travels across the country speaking on student initiatives did not have the courage to visit Telangana. “Rahul Gandhi has a responsibility to answer for the promises made to the people of Telangana,” he said.
Unemployed youth were another target. Rama Rao recalled that Gandhi had made major promises to them while sitting at a tea stall in Ashok Nagar ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections. He said those promises had not been delivered.
Minority promises under scrutiny
For Telangana’s minority communities, Rama Rao said the Congress government had failed to fulfil the special ‘Minority Declaration’. He pressed the government on a promised allocation of Rs 4,000 crore for minority welfare and asked directly what had happened to it. The question carries weight for a constituency like Khairatabad, where the minority leader who joined the BRS on Sunday holds a senior position.
The land and brother allegations
The sharpest claims concerned the Chief Minister’s family. Rama Rao alleged that a five-acre plot worth nearly Rs 200 crore had effectively been gifted to the Chief Minister’s younger brother for just Rs 7 crore. He also questioned the younger brother’s educational qualifications and his business activities in the aerospace sector.
He went further, demanding that the Congress government disclose details of an alleged Rs 1,000 crore deal linked to another of the Chief Minister’s brothers, who lives in the United States. None of these claims were accompanied by a government response in the source material.
Warning to officials and a promise of return
Rama Rao said public anger against the Congress government was growing. He pointed to how the government was treating the poor, farmers and unemployed youth, as well as how it was handling BRS leaders and party workers. Those who abuse their authority, he warned, will face action.
“The BRS will not spare those who oppress the public or those who engage in wrongdoing by leveraging their power. The party will continue to pursue legal action against officials who abuse their authority,” Rama Rao warned.
He expressed confidence that the BRS would return to power within the next year and a half. He promised that a BRS government would work to restore Telangana’s position as the number one state in the country.
What it means for Telangana
For voters in Telangana, the speech turns the corruption debate into a direct electoral contest. The allegations touch on the six guarantees, minority welfare funds, unemployment and the conduct of the Chief Minister’s own family. Each of those issues will now be measured against what the government delivers in the months ahead, and the BRS has made clear it intends to keep pressing them.
