Gummadi Narsaiah, former Illandu MLA and state leader of CPI(ML) Prajapantha, said on Sunday that the Central and state governments have neglected drought relief while farmers absorb heavy losses from a rain deficit. He made the charge at a press conference at Shramik Bhavan in Bijwar, Utkoor mandal, Narayanpet district.
The core of his argument is simple. The drought was visible well before the crisis deepened, yet governments did not prepare in advance. Narsaiah said the failure to draw up early plans was proof of poor governance.
Drought conditions were clear well in advance, yet governments did not draw up advance plans. That is proof of governance failure.
According to Narsaiah, crops have been damaged by the lack of rain and farmers are facing serious losses. People and livestock are struggling with a shortage of fodder and drinking water. He accused both governments of limiting themselves to announcements instead of acting on the ground. Only a government that assesses the severity of drought and moves early can protect its people, he said, and he demanded immediate drought relief measures to support farmers.
Promises on the table: Narsaiah also turned his fire on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s election promises. He said the delay in implementing the increase in Aasara pensions, the Rs 2,500 monthly financial assistance for women, and the full farm loan waiver is hurting families already buried under debt. He urged the government to take visible steps to help farmers struggling with loan burdens.
For Telangana, the stakes are immediate. Farmers in Narayanpet and across the state depend on timely rain, fodder and water to survive a bad season. When relief is delayed, the impact falls on small cultivators, rural households and livestock owners first. Narsaiah framed the issue as a test of whether promises made during the election campaign will translate into support when rural families need it most.
The voter list fight: Narsaiah broadened his attack to national politics. He accused the BJP-led central government of misusing democratic institutions. He objected to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and said concerns about large numbers of votes being removed during the process must be taken seriously. He demanded that the SIR be scrapped and that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign.
Warning of agitation: Other leaders at the meeting joined the criticism. State general secretary of AIUKS B. Ramu, CPI(ML) Mass Line state secretariat members M. Krishna and M. Hanmesh said the parties would intensify movements with public participation if the governments do not honour their promises to the people.
Narsaiah also announced a large public meeting in Hyderabad on December 29, 2026, to press for the implementation of promises made to the public. Party division secretary Saleem, TUCI district president S. Kiran, mandal secretary Siddhu, deputy sarpanch Govardhan Reddy and leaders Mallesh, G. Krishnaiah and Porla Narasimha were among those present.
For now, the immediate question is whether drought relief reaches farmers before the damage becomes permanent. Narsaiah has put both governments on notice. The reply, and the scale of any relief that follows, will decide whether his warning becomes a movement.
