Harley-Davidson X350T Spied Undisguised With 350cc Engine

IN SHORTHarley X350T spotted undisguised in India with a 350cc engine. Here’s what changed, what stayed, and how it could challenge Royal Enfield’s grip.

Hero Harley’s X440T is becoming the X350T, and the first undisguised pictures show the India-spec motorcycle ahead of a launch expected in the coming weeks. The new name sits on the fuel tank, right beside the Harley-Davidson lettering.

The renaming tells you what changed. Hero and Harley had held on to their 440cc displacement while the rest of the market moved in the other direction. The Indian government imposed a 350cc displacement barrier for lower taxes as part of GST 2.0 revisions, and the math stopped working for big engines. Bajaj was the first to announce downsizing across its own portfolio, along with Triumph and KTM lineups. Now Harley is following suit.

What the spy shots confirm

Visually, the X350T is almost identical to the X440T. Harley’s new bike uses the same mainframe and subframe, along with the revised aesthetics introduced with the T variant last year. The improved production quality seen on the X440T last year also carries over to this model.

The most noticeable visual change is the badge and the paint. The X350T wears a new Orange colour theme with fresh graphics. Harley-Davidson lettering stays prominent, and the model name sits right next to it on the tank.

Do not confuse this bike with the X350 that Harley has developed in China. That motorcycle comes from a partnership with QJ Motor. It is a liquid-cooled parallel-twin that costs CNY 33,388, roughly Rs 4.77 lakh. The India-spec X350T is a separate machine built around a different engine layout and a different price point.

The engine is where the real story sits

Everything interesting about this bike happens under the tank. The X440T runs a 440cc oil-cooled engine that produces 27 bhp and 38 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The X350T’s engine is expected to displace around 350cc and make roughly 25 bhp and 35 Nm. Those figures are speculative, so treat them as estimates until Harley publishes official numbers.

One change is confirmed. The X350T gets an electric throttle body. That is a meaningful addition for a bike that is aiming to feel refined in stop-and-go Indian traffic, and it marks a step beyond a simple bore-and-stroke cut.

Downsizing an engine by around 90cc usually raises the same question every time: what does the rider lose? The expected drop from 27 bhp to about 25 bhp is modest on paper. Whether that gap shows up on the road will depend on how Harley tunes the throttle response and gearing, and the company has not shared those details yet.

Things change from here onwards as Hero Harley X440 has now undergone engine downsizing treatment and the company is even slapping the correct displacement number in the name as X440T just became X350T.

Equipment stays put

Harley is not stripping the bike to hit the new displacement. The X350T keeps disc brakes at both ends with Dual Channel ABS. The instrument cluster is a portrait-style TFT unit. The seat is a single piece with a step for the pillion and a ribbed design for the rider.

Hardware carries over too. The bike retains USD front forks, a twin shock rear suspension setup, all-LED lighting with circular headlights, a flyscreen and a wide handlebar. For buyers comparing it with the X440T, the spec sheet looks familiar because most of it is unchanged.

Price and colours

The X440T currently costs Rs 2.86 lakh ex-showroom and comes in four mono-tone colours: Vivid Black, Pearl White, Pearl Blue and Pearl Red. The X350T will move to a different palette, with Black, Red, Orange and Military Green on offer.

Lower pricing is expected, though no official figure has been announced. A smaller engine that qualifies for the lower tax bracket should help Harley bring the price down, and that is the piece of the story most buyers will be watching closely.

Why Royal Enfield buyers should pay attention

Enthusiasts in India and Western markets are eager to see how a downsized Harley engine performs against established rivals such as Royal Enfield. Royal Enfield has long dominated this segment in India, and any Harley-branded bike priced near the same mark will draw immediate comparisons on power, weight, equipment and price.

No official head-to-head numbers exist yet. The specs and estimates above are the only data points on the table, which means the real comparison will come when Harley publishes final figures and the bike reaches showrooms. Until then, the X350T is a clear signal that Harley and Hero are willing to rethink their big-displacement strategy to win riders in a market where the tax rules now favour smaller engines.

TL;DR

  • Hero Harley X440T becomes the X350T with a downsized 350cc engine, spotted undisguised ahead of launch.
  • The 350cc displacement barrier under GST 2.0 pushed Harley and Hero to shrink the engine from 440cc.
  • The X350T keeps the X440T’s chassis, brakes, TFT cluster and LED lighting, with an electric throttle body added.
  • Engine output of around 25 bhp and 35 Nm is speculative until official figures are released.
  • The X440T costs Rs 2.86 lakh ex-showroom, and lower pricing for the X350T is expected.
  • Launch is expected in the coming weeks, with Black, Red, Orange and Military Green colours.
