The Delhi Election Commission has served notices to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and four of his family members after flagging them as "unmapped" voters during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Assembly Constituency 40.

In a development that has sent shockwaves across the political spectrum, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)—who governed the national capital for three consecutive terms—now finds his very status as a verified elector thrown into administrative dispute. Notices were dispatched to Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, his father Gobind Ram Kejriwal, his mother Gita Devi, and his 25-year-old son Pulkit Kejriwal. All five family members belong to a group of 110 individuals flagged under the "Unmapped with Last SIR" category within their specific polling segment in the New Delhi constituency.

Political Targeting or Administrative Audit?

The timing and nature of the notices have ignited intense political friction, raising explosive questions over whether one of the country’s prominent opposition figures is being targeted by poll authorities. The Aam Aadmi Party reacted with public outrage, directly challenging the impartiality of election administrators online.

"Is everything happening in this country just to keep the Supreme Lord happy? @ECISVEEP, how is it possible that the names of three-time Delhi Chief Minister @ArvindKejriwal Ji and his family members are missing from the Delhi voter list?"

This political clash comes on the heels of Kejriwal’s previous attack on the revision process. On August 31, the AAP chief publicly raised alarm after the draft electoral roll left out over 47 lakh voters out of Delhi’s estimated 1.5 crore electorate. At the time, Kejriwal took a sharp swipe at the central government, remarking that the revision exercise seemed designed to drastically shrink population records rather than address voter rights.

Election Officials Point to Incomplete Documentation

Responding to the fallout, the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for New Delhi issued a press statement stating that the action follows standard guidelines established by the Election Commission of India. Officials explained that the Enumeration Forms submitted by Kejriwal and his family lacked full details required to link their current entries with previous state electoral rolls.

According to poll authorities, an unmapped voter is simply someone whose present submission cannot be automatically matched with prior SIR records. Voters receiving these notices are required to present supporting documents to resolve logical discrepancies. The ERO confirmed that voters have until October 29, 2026, to clear their notices.

Seeking to push back against claims of political bias, officials noted that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was similarly issued a discrepancy notice in Assembly Constituency 14 (Shalimar Bagh). Her details were subsequently verified and cleared for inclusion in the final electoral roll set for publication on November 4, 2026.

Widespread Discrepancies Across Delhi

The SIR drive in Delhi involved extensive door-to-door verification between June 30 and August 17, achieving an overall digitization rate of 67.18 per cent across the capital’s 70 assembly constituencies. Progress varied significantly by region, with Rohini recording the highest completion rate at 83.43 per cent and Tughlakabad recording the lowest at 52.15 per cent.

Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar confirmed that officers are holding special camps to hear voter claims and objections. Electors whose names remain unmapped or missing have until September 30 to submit Form 6 along with required documentation to protect their voter eligibility.
